Si esto es un hombre, libro que inaugura la trilogía que Primo Levi dedicó  a los campos de exterminio nazis, surgió en la imaginación de su autor durante los días de horror en Auschwitz, cuando la principal preocupación de los prisioneros era que, de sobrevivir, nadie creería la atrocidad de la historia vivida. Los campos de concentración y exterminio, más que resguardados por las alambradas y los guardias, lo estuvieron por su propia monstruosidad, que los hacía inconcebibles. Es la sobriedad del testimonio de Primo Levi, una víctima que no grita pero que arranca el grito de la garganta de su lector, lo que devuelve al horror su realidad y lo hace inteligible como una siniestra señal de peligro. He was born into a Jewish family settled in Piedmont. In 1941, he graduated as a chemist from the University of Turin, a profession he would later combine with his literary activity. After participating in the resistance in northern Italy, he was captured and deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Following the liberation of the camp in 1945, and after a hazardous journey through Eastern Europe, Levi returned to Turin, where he published his first account of the Nazi extermination camps, If This Is a Man (1947), a foundational book of concentration camp literature

Subsequently, The Truce (1963) and The Drowned and the Saved (1986) were published, two essential titles that complete the Auschwitz Trilogy. Among his works are also his five volumes of stories: Natural Histories, Structural Defect, The Periodic Table, Lilith and Other Stories, and Last Christmas of War.

Cabe distinguir entre libro y contenido. El contenido es un lujo, un testimonio sobrio de la vivencia durante un año de Primo Levi en Monowitz para luego dedicar su vida a mantener la memoria con miras a que un horror de esta magnitud no se repita. En cuanto al libro físico, me desilusionó mucho porque siendo de la misma editorial del primero que leí, es mucho más pequeño y, por tanto incómodo al leer para mantenerlo abierto sin destruir su rilegatura. Envío en tiempo y forma. Precio de acuerdo al mercado.
