Synopsis "Starship Orphans"

The animals in this story are humanoid cats with long prehensile tails. They have humanlike hands with retractable claws, and are the same size as a tiger. The cats come in different colors, such as black and white or calico. Their saliva has the ability to heal any minor injury, that they might receive. They are mostly a peaceful people, unless they, their mates and friends are threatened or injured in some way. Then they will choose to show the predatory side of their nature. Beth and Lisa lived with their parents on the space station, Silver Flag. Silver Flag was a small space station, with a crew of 100 people. Beth was fifteen years old, with black hair and blue eyes, while Lisa was three years old, with blond hair and brown eyes. Beth and Lisa's mother was a docter, while their father was in charge of Silver Flag. Beth and Lisa spent most of their time on the promenade, watching the passengers as they wandered from one shop to the next. They did not know that a passenger on the spaceship, Star Fire, which had just docked at the space station, had contracted a highly contagious disease, when she visited a planet in the next solar system. The doctor aboard Star Fire had tried to contain the disease, by confining the woman to her cabin as soon as the woman started showing the symtoms of the disease, but by then it had spread all over the ship. The captain of Star Fire docked at Silver Flag, in the hopes that the doctor on Silver Flag would be able to find a viable cure. The second spaceship docked at Silver Flag was a medical ship, full of medical personnel and their families. There were four young children on board and it became Beth's responsibility to watch over them. Beth took her responsibility very seriously and she guarded the five children as they played their games on the promenade. A passenger on a third spaceship, Midnight Rain, had found an unsual animal on a planet two solar systems over, and she brought it aboard Midnight Rain and hid the animal in her cabin, with the help of two of the crew, until Midnight Rain had docked at Silver Flag. The animal escaped from the woman's cabin and it found its way onto Silver Flag. The animal was a calico humanoid cat with a long prehensile tail and humanlike hands, with retractable claws, the same size as a tiger. Lisa and the other children noticed the animal as it went down a service hallway. They got up and headed down the service hallway after the cat. Beth stood and followed the children down the hall. The cat looked back and it saw Lisa, Beth and the other children following it. It stopped and turned around to look at them, before vanishing through a hole in the wall. Beth, Lisa and the other children crawled through the hole, into the room. The cat was waiting for them in the room on the other side of the wall. "Why are you following me," the cat rumbled at Lisa, Beth and the other children. "We have never seen anybody like you before," Lisa said. The cat walked forward and sniffed at Lisa and Beth, before sniffing at the other children. The cat backed away from them in surprise. "You are just children," it said, in a female voice. Beth turned her head, when the alarm went off. She looked down at Lisa and the other children and said, "We need to go
