Stephen R. Covey (Salt Lake City, Utah, October 24, 1932 – Idaho Falls, July 16, 2012) was one of the most influential educators, writers, and speakers in leadership development and personal growth. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Utah, an MBA from Harvard, and a PhD in Religious Education from Brigham Young University, where he also taught. Covey was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various leadership roles within the organization. His most iconic work, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (1989), revolutionized business literature by consolidating principles of proactivity, vision, prioritization, and synergy, and has sold over 25 million copies in 52 languages. He also published other influential titles such as First Things First, Principle-Centered Leadership, The 8th Habit, and The Speed of Trust.

Recognized as one of the 25 most influential Americans by Time magazine in 1996, Covey received ten honorary doctorates and the Fatherhood Award from the National Fatherhood Initiative, among other distinctions. He founded the Covey Leadership Center in 1985, which merged with Franklin Quest in 1997 to create FranklinCovey, a global leader in consulting and training leaders and teams. Covey's legacy endures in millions of readers and organizations worldwide that have adopted his principles to achieve effectiveness and transformative leadership.
