In 2014, photographer Chris Donovan initiated a documentation project of his hometown, Saint John, New Brunswick, located on Canada's east coast. Saint John, a compact, heavily industrialized city, is home to Canada's largest oil refinery, one of the country's most affluent families, and one of its highest child poverty rates. As Donovan began photographing the city and its residents, driven by the desire to explore the close proximity of extreme wealth and poverty, he became increasingly cognizant of the environmental classism and ecological injustices present in the city.
