The Empty Chair - Kevyn Mercer

Then a storm sends him home by a different road.

Jonah arrives just in time to save his dogs from a fire. But afterward, he begins remembering what happened in the life where he took the other route-and arrived too late.

More countermemories follow. A conversation that never happened. A relationship that ended differently. Choices that feel as real as anything Jonah has actually lived. Some contain details he could not possibly know. Others contradict the people who were there.

As Jonah searches for a pattern, the memories begin influencing the life in front of him-his work, his family, the possibility of a new relationship, and the care of an aging dog whose time may be running out.

But a memory is not an instruction. And no other life can tell Jonah what this one requires. Some memories are impossible. The choices they leave behind are real.
