Synopsis "The Idiot (Wordsworth Classics) "

Translated by Constance Garnett, with an Introduction and Notes by Agnes Cardinal, Honorary Senior Lecturer in Comparative Literature at the University of Kent. Prince Myshkin returns to Russia from an asylum in Switzerland. As he becomes embroiled in the frantic amatory and financial intrigues which centre around a cast of brilliantly realised characters and which ultimately lead to tragedy, he emerges as a unique combination of the Christian ideal of perfection and Dostoevsky's own views, afflictions and manners. His serene selflessness is contrasted with the worldly qualities of every other character in the novel. Dostoevsky supplies a harsh indictment of the Russian ruling class of his day who have created a world which cannot accomodate the goodness of this idiot.

Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky Moscow, (1821-1881) was one of the leading writers and novelists of the Russian Empire, whose literature explores human psychology in the complex political, social, and spiritual context of Russian society in the second half of the 19th century. At the age of 20, he began working as a translator in St. Petersburg and published his first novel, Poor Folk, which earned him almost instant and fleeting fame

He was sentenced to exile in Siberia and later to death, pardoned just moments before, which would serve as a boost to establish himself as a successful writer. In his works, he shows traits of modernity, dealing in detail with the everyday moments of the time and a realistic tone in the dialogues with ironic touches.

Debido a la delgada encuadernación, me preocupaba que se desgarrara con el menor trato, pero es cuestión de cuidarlo, ya que aunque es algo incómodo, sigue siendo preciosa. No esperaba que las letras fuesen tan pequeñas. Sin embargo, se gana 4 estrellas porque vino en perfecto estado pese a su retraso.
