The Impossible Prefect
Nancy Breary (Author) · Books to Treasure · Paperback
Lindsay's appointment as a prefect at River Place school astonishes the sixth form, because Lindsay is apparently as casual as she is popular. But the Head knows of what good stuff she is made. Amongst the new youngsters the most ardent of Lindsay's worshippers is Jennifer, and Jennifer starts with a handicap-her brother's habit of setting her "dares". This complicates her school career right till the last incident. The arrival of Lois, with the same literary ambition as Lindsay, but without her fine character, further complicates matters, and one way and another, though there is lots of fun and the juniors have great times, River Place is falling off. How things work out at last, with Jennifer learning sense and Lindsay deciding what are her first responsibilities, is unfolded in the liveliest fashion. River Place is a school where sailing is amongst the chief sports, and, as everything gets straightened out, Jennifer, despite a final hard blow from Fate, is ecstatically happy because she is to be "crew" to Lindsay. Lindsay, once "the impossible prefect", is Head Girl, and Jennifer can say "I've never felt so super in my life".
