In 1920 one of India's great spiritual emissaries, Paramhansa Yogananda (Author of the spiritual classic Autobiograahpy of a Yogi) arrived in America to share a fresh and dynamic expression of the ancent Indian traditiion of Yoga. In 1948 J.Donald Walters - later known as Swami Kriyananda - appeared at the Master's ashram to become a disciple. Since Yogananda's passing in 1952 Kriyananda has become recognized around the world as one of Yogananda's foremost direct disciples.

This is the story of a 'next generation' disciple's experience with Swami Kriyananda, the path of Self-Realization, life at Ananda Village - a spiritual community based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda - and an exploration of the purpose and practice of discipleship.

This volume includes an up close and personal view of Swami Kriyananda from the end of 1977 to the end of 2004 and is the second book in The Journey of Discipleship series. Although it is written in an autobiographical style, Learning with Swamiji goes far beyond the experiences of one person to explore both practical and subltle nuances of discipleship and the spiritual nature of life. Multiple layers of inspiration and understanding are woven into a sometimes poignant and often entertaining life journey.

At the age of 17 Lawrence Vijay Girard became a disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda. Three years later he moved to Ananda Village and became a student and life long friend of Swami Kriyananda. Since that time he has dedicated himsellf to practicing and sharing the teachings that both Paramhansa Yogananda and Swami Kriyananda dedicated their lives to sharing with the world.
