Synopsis "The Kiss"

Joelyn Katherine Foy, aka Jo, graduated with a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from Kansas State University in December 2014. Her first play, THE LAST SCHOOL DISTRICT, was inspired by her dissertation research on beliefs and attitudes of pre-service and in-service teachers toward gender and sexually diverse (GSD) students. This second play, THE KISS, elaborates upon an incident that occurred in a middle school in which Jo was substitute teaching while writing her doctoral dissertation. The events in this second play are not based on actual events, but are suggested by real events. This second play imagines what the context might have been for the real event that occurred and what might have happened afterwards. Jo currently lives with her partner, Mary, to whom she is legally married, in Arkansas. She is a data analyst with Arkansas State University Newport (ASUN), a community college subsystem of the Arkansas State University System. In her spare time as an independent educational researcher and multicultural educator, she works individually with graduate students and facilitates multicultural trainings for non-profit and for-profit agencies.
