Synopsis "The River"

When the body of Special Branch Agent Joe Knight is found floating in the Tyne River near Newcastle's Quayside, questions swirl around his death. A Londoner through and through, Joe had no apparent ties to the North East, so why was he there, and who wanted him dead? Special Branch Agent Blake Langford, tasked with unravelling the mystery, discovers that Joe's daughter, Carla, a troubled student studying psychology at Coventry University, has vanished without a trace. As Blake digs deeper, he uncovers a web of corruption, betrayal and classified secrets that Joe had been chasing alongside his colleague Samir Khalifa, a trail that leads from Newcastle's gritty underbelly to the heart of London's power elite with Joe's late ex-wife Patricia playing a pivotal role in it. With time running out, Carla's fate hanging in the balance and Blake's sister and Joe's girlfriend Jenny Langford wanting justice, Blake must navigate a dangerous game where allies are scarce and the truth could cost him everything.
