Synopsis "The Steady One"

You know what you are supposed to do.Lower your voice. Stay curious. Hold the boundary kindly. And some mornings, on the hallway floor, none of it is available to you.The Steady One is a book about that gap - not about closing it, which cannot be done, but about what can be done from inside it. Written for the grown-up beside the child, it moves through twenty-five short chapters on the moments most parenting books skip: the fourth transition of the morning, the audience in the supermarket queue, the boundary held in a whisper, the shout that arrives anyway, and the honest repair afterwards that takes about eleven seconds. It will not tell you to try harder. It assumes you have a nervous system too, that you will lose your steadiness sometimes, and that this is survivable - for both of you. There is a chapter for the parent who is the only adult in the house. There is a chapter on the cold silence that children find harder than shouting. There is a chapter on apologies that are not received the first time. The steady one is not the person who never wobbles. It is the person who knows how to come back. From The Regulated Human Co. Regulation before optimisation.
