The Veil. Covenant - Meredith Taylor

Urban fantasy of angels, monsters, and a woman born to break an interdimensional war.

Twenty‑eight‑year‑old journalist Onyx Esposito has spent her life running from a past she cannot remember and nightmares she cannot escape. When a weekend birthday trip in the mountains ends with her falling off a cliff, she should die. Instead, she finds herself lifted in the arms of a stranger with wings.

Raphael is a Celestial, part of an ancient race that humans turned into myths of angels and gods. His people have spent millennia secretly guarding our world from the Chthon: ruthless enemies who were exiled, along with the monstrous creatures they shared a dark bond with, behind a dimensional barrier known as the Veil.

Now that barrier is cracking.

Direhounds prowl the forests. Murderous, red‑eyed strixes tear open the sky. And the Chthon have a plan to shatter the Veil forever by summoning the Behemoth, a colossal horror whose arrival will drown the human world in nightmare.

Caught between Raphael and Lucian, a dangerously charming Chthon who claims he wants peace, Onyx discovers the truth her mother died to protect: she is the Sibyl, a prophesied bridge between realms and the only one who can either seal the Veil for good...or tear it wide open.

To stop the coming cataclysm, Onyx must untangle her mother's secrets, survive monsters that shouldn't exist, and decide who to trust in a war where angels are not always righteous and demons are not always wrong. The power awakening in her blood could save two worlds.

If it doesn't destroy her first.

Covenant is a fast‑paced, character‑driven urban fantasy set in Los Angeles.
