Isabel Wilkerson, born in Washington D.C. in 1961, is a distinguished American journalist and author. In 1994, she became the first African American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for journalism. Her work focuses on narrating the lives of anonymous African Americans and exposing deeply rooted systems of social injustice.

Among her most recognized works is "The Warmth of Other Suns" (2010), an epic chronicle of the Great African American Migration. This book was awarded the National Book Critics Circle Award in the non-fiction category. Another notable publication is "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" (2020), where she analyzes social hierarchy systems in the United States.
