Synopsis "TIG WELDING OF DISSIMILAR SS STEELS AND SIMILAR GRADES OF Ti-6A-4V "

TIG welding is suitable for making high strength and high quality joints employed in pressure vessels and aerospace applications. Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding was chosen for welding of similar grades of Titanium alloy and dissimilar grades of Stainless steel to get a high quality and sound joints. Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding was performed on Ti-6Al-4V using pure titanium Grade-2 wire as filler material and SAE 2205 was welded with AISI 304 using AISI 308 filler wire. The important welding parameter, welding current was varied and other two parameters were maintained at a constant value. Welding current was maintained at 100 and 110 Amp and the voltage was set at 40 Volt for TIG welding of TI-6Al-4V and Welding current of 110, 120 and 130 Amp is maintained and the voltage of 40 Volt is set for TIG welding of SAE 2205 with AISI 304. A constant welding speed of 0.5 mm/s was maintained for all the experiments. This research work is conducted to obtain better understanding and characterization of similar and dissimilar metal joints.
