Synopsis "Tormento (in Spanish)"

En Tormento (1884) Benito Pérez Galdós vuelve a romper los moldes de sus novelas anteriores, no replegándose nunca ante fórmulas convencionales y ensayando al mismo tiempo diversas técnicas narrativas. En esta novela, perteneciente al ciclo de las «Novelas contemporáneas» iniciado en 1881 con La desheredada, el autor utiliza el folletín para provocar el equívoco y distanciarse a la vez de la trama de la novela. En el primer capítulo, José Ido del Sagrario cuenta a Felipín Centeno que está escribiendo un folletín sobre dos hermanas huérfanas, Amparo y Refugio, lo que es precisamente el tema de la novela de Galdós, quien acudía a José Ido, una especie de personaje comodín, cuando necesitaba echar mano de situaciones rocambolescas, poco creíbles e irreales.
