As a member of the Atlanta Symphony trumpet section, I was honored to perform under the baton of Henry Mancini, world-renowned film and television composer. As the maestro turned to acknowledge the thunderous applause of a sold out amphitheater, and the orchestra prepared for the downbeat of 'Peter Gunn, ' Mr. Mancini's lead and solo trumpeter invited me to play the upcoming solo in his stead.
