Napolitain comme eux, mais rebelle à l'esprit idéaliste de la Grande-Grèce, il appartient plutôt à l'école de Bologne. Il est anti-platonicien déclaré, et disciple ardent d'Aristote, interprété à la manière d'Averroës et de Pomponat. Ce n'est pas la plus noble expression du XVIe siècle. Il en a l'imagination et l'esprit, il en a aussi le désordre, et ce désordre paraît avoir été dans sa conduite comme dans sa pensée; mais il a du moins ressemblé à ses deux grands compatriotes par son audace et par ses malheurs..."
