no single scholarly book in the market addresses the range of issues that are specific to youth and newer forms of digital media such as the internet. currently, books fall into one of two categories. the first group deals with youth and media (e.g., strasburger and wilson?s children and media); books in this category (and there are really only two books) focus mostly on television from the media effects approach and have just one chapter on the internet and other interactive technologies. books in the second category deal with the internet but are focused mostly on adults and so do not address the particular issues relevant to youth (e.g., purcell?s networked neighborhoods or whitty and carr?s cyberspace romance). our book will therefore fill a critical gap in the literature ? it will present an in-depth analysis of the diverse literature on adolescents? virtual lives for researchers and clinicians interested in youth and new media.
