"A teaching tool of extraordinary efficacy." -Christian Rohlfing, Administrator, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum "A remarkable resource...that should be made available...to all educational organizations...A major contribution." -John B. Hightower, President, Associated Councils of the ArtsPrimary-source drama is a powerful tool for skills and character development that has been largely overlooked by the educational sector.Jenny Egan's well-publicized experiments in the field proved successful, with The New York Times praising her works as "A new perspective on the arts."But it's at Borough of Manhattan Community College that her techniques were put to the ultimate test. Under Dr. Egan's guidance, members of the student body-most from marginalized communities-found education and empowerment through researching, writing, designing, and staging primary-source dramas.Culled from these experiences, the illustrated text of VOICES comprises a manual for converting raw data into exciting theatre through a groundbreaking method that uncovers students' latent abilities, fosters teamwork, and boosts achievement in many core curriculum subjects.VOICES will interest educators, stage directors, filmmakers, set and costume designers, and writers who seek new ways of engaging the minds of today's youth. "Cutting edge...epitomizes the inner-disciplinary approach at the heart of today's teaching." -Jillan Spitzmiller, President, Documentors LLC"A unique educational experience." -Christopher Lucas, Dir., Cultural Programs, Channel 13
