Mariana Leky nació en Colonia en 1973 y reside en Berlín. Estudió periodismo cultural en la Universidad de Hildesheim y trabajó como librera. Es autora de varias novelas y relatos cortos, por los que ha sido galardonada con premios como el Allegra (2000), el Baja Sajonia (2001) o el de Jóvenes Artistas del Estado de Renania del Norte-Westfalia (2005). El día que Selma soñó con un okapi se ha convertido en un auténtico éxito literario en Alemania, donde ha vendido más de 300.000 ejemplares. Además, está en proceso de publicación en más de quince países y tendrá, también, su adaptación cinematográfica. La novela ha obtenido triple reconocimiento de los libreros de Alemania: el Premio de los Libreros Independientes, el de Mejor Novela y el de Mejor Autora del Año.
