Synopsis "Winterslow"

September 1513. In the world beyond Winterslow Manor, Tudor England is at war with France and Scotland. After an unhappy love affair eight years earlier, Bridget Winterslow's life is lonely and uneventful. Her brother is fighting in France with King Henry the Eighth, trying to restore the Winterslow family's Yorkist fortunes. Days after the battle of Flodden where the English defeated the Scots, Bridget's former lover, Gavin Neville, newly knighted for his valour in the battle, seeks hospitality at Winterslow while escorting a beautiful noblewoman, Lady Serle, who is travelling north to be with her husband, gravely injured at Flodden. Overhearing an argument between Gavin and Lady Serle, Bridget begins to suspect there is more to the noblewoman's journey than her husband's injuries. The Tudor dynasty is still insecure. What dangerous involvement does Lady Serle have with the court and Queen Catherine of Aragon, Regent in King Henry's absence? On this journey north, does Gavin have orders he must keep secret even from Bridget?
