Dieses Buch befasst sich mit den Formen von und Bedingungen für europäische Solidarität. Marcus Engler schlägt ein differenzierteres Solidaritätskonzept vor, bei dem drei Dimensionen unterschieden werden: Horizont, Intensität und Stabilität. Dieses Vorgehen ermöglicht ein detailliertes und nuanciertes Verständnis europäischer Solidarität. Den empirischen Kern bildet eine Fallstudie der Gewerkschaften bei Airbus während der Auseinandersetzung um das europaweite Restrukturierungsprogramm "Power8." Basierend darauf kommt der Autor zu der Schlussfolgerung, dass Ansätze europäischer Solidarität vorhanden sind. Diese Solidarität erweist sich bisher aber nicht als sehr belastbar und stabil. Zur Erklärung werden eine Reihe von Faktoren identifiziert, die ihre Wirkung sowohl bei Airbus als auch beim europäischen Integrationsprozess insgesamt entfalten.
