Previously, López Bóo was a lead economist in the Social Protection and Health Division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where she led the early childhood development agenda, the Innovation Fund in this area, and an initiative on behavioral economics applied to social policies. Her research focuses on the evaluation of social protection programs, the quality of child care, and the application of behavioral economics to improve public policies
She has published more than a hundred articles in specialized journals such as The Lancet, Pediatrics, and Journal of Development Economics, and has been a member of global committees on child development, including The Lancet's 2016 series on child development and the Investing in Young Children Forum of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA.
