Francesco Gatti
Francesco Redi (1626–1697) was an Italian physician, naturalist, and poet, considered the founder of experimental biology. He was born in Arezzo and stood out for refuting the theory of spontaneous generation of insects, demonstrating their origin in fly eggs. Additionally, he conducted studies on viper venom, identifying its production in the fangs.
Among his literary works, "Bacco in Toscana" (Bacchus in Tuscany) and "Arianna inferma" (Sick Arianna) are notable. His contribution to science earned him posthumous recognition with the Redi Award, given by the International Society of Toxinology since 1967.
