Francis D. K. Ching
Francis D. K. Ching (Honolulu, 1943) is an American architect, professor, and author widely recognized for his work in teaching architectural design and graphic representation. After earning his degree in Architecture from the University of Notre Dame in 1966, he practiced professionally before beginning his teaching career at Ohio University in 1972. Later, he joined the University of Washington, where he served as a professor and is currently professor emeritus at the College of Built Environments.

His most influential work is Architecture: Form, Space, and Order, a classic introduction to the principles of architectural design. Other notable titles include Architectural Graphics (1975), Building Structures Illustrated (2009), A Visual Dictionary of Architecture (1995), and A Global History of Architecture (2007), the latter co-authored with Mark M. Jarzombek and Vikramaditya Prakash. His books, characterized by clear and didactic illustrations, have been translated into more than 18 languages and are considered benchmarks in the training of architects and designers.
