Francisco Solano López
Francisco Solano López (Buenos Aires, 1928 – 2011) was an Argentine comic artist known for his detailed and expressive style. He began his career in 1953 with Perico y Guillermina and collaborated with writers like Héctor Germán Oesterheld on works such as El Eternauta (1957–1959), Ernie Pike (1957–1959), and Rolo, the Adoptive Martian (1957–1958). During his exile in Spain and Brazil in the 70s and 80s, he continued his artistic production, including the series Ana and Sad Stories. Upon returning to Argentina, he resumed El Eternauta with new issues like The Repentant World (1997) and The Return (2001–2010), in collaboration with Pablo Maiztegui

His most emblematic work, El Eternauta, is considered one of the most influential comics in Spanish-language graphic literature. The 2015 US edition received three nominations at the Eisner Awards and won in the category of Best Archival Collection/Project—Strips. In 2008, he was declared an Outstanding Personality of Culture by the Legislature of the City of Buenos Aires. His legacy endures as a reference in Argentine and Latin American comics.
