Henry-Louis de la Grange
Henry-Louis de La Grange (1924-2017) was a French musicologist known for his extensive research on Gustav Mahler. He studied at Yale and the Sorbonne, where he was a student of Nadia Boulanger, and worked as a music critic and lecturer in various countries. His most notable work is his monumental biography of Mahler, published in four volumes between 1973 and 2008, considered an essential reference in musicology.
Among his books are Gustav Mahler, Vol. 1: The Youth Years (1973), Gustav Mahler, Vol. 2: Vienna, the Challenge Years (1995), Gustav Mahler, Vol. 3: Vienna, Triumph and Disillusionment (2000) and Gustav Mahler, Vol. 4: A New Life Cut Short (2008). His work received awards such as the Deems Taylor (1974) and the Royal Philharmonic Society (1995)
