Hernán Rivera Letelier
Hernán Rivera Letelier (Talca, 1950) is a distinguished miner, writer, and Chilean poet. His works, influenced by magical realism, often recount his experiences as a worker in the nitrate mines of the Atacama Desert, in northern Chile.
Among his most acclaimed novels are, La reina Isabel cantaba rancheras (1994), La contadora de películas (2009), and El arte de la resurrección (2010), winner of the Alfaguara Novel Prize.
In addition to his numerous awards, in 2001 he was named Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the Ministry of Culture of France, and in 2022 he received the National Literature Prize of Chile, consolidating his position as one of the most important authors of contemporary Chilean literature.
