Jacqueline Harpman
Jacqueline Harpman (Etterbeek, Brussels, 5 July 1929 - 24 May 2012) was a Belgian novelist and psychoanalyst of Jewish origin. During World War II, her family took refuge in Casablanca to escape Nazi persecution. After the war, they returned to Belgium, where Harpman studied French literature at the University of Brussels. She began medical studies, but abandoned them due to tuberculosis. Among her most notable works are "I Who Have Never Known Men" (2021), "Orlanda" (1996), awarded the Médicis Prize, and "The Beach at Ostend". Her novels, written in French, explore themes of identity and human existence.
