Jaime Lopera
Jaime Lopera Gutiérrez (Calarcá, Quindío, 1936) is a Colombian writer, journalist, historian, and cultural manager, known for his work in preserving and disseminating the history of Quindío. He is considered a pioneer of the microstory in Colombia, standing out with his book La perorata y otras historias (1967), which marked a milestone in Latin American short narrative.

Lopera Gutiérrez began studies in Law and Political Science at the Universidad Externado de Colombia, but his commitment to politics and history led him to abandon this career to dedicate himself to activism in the Liberal Revolutionary Movement of Alfonso López Michelsen. Throughout his life, he has held various public positions, including director of the Escuela Superior de Administración Pública (ESAP), head of the Civil Service in the government of López Michelsen, cultural advisor at the embassy of Spain, and governor of Quindío during the government of Belisario Betancur.

His literary production includes more than fifteen books, among which stand out La perorata, Minotauro insólito, El jardín de tus oídos, Postigos, and La culpa es de la vaca (co-written with his wife Martha Inés Bernal). Additionally, he has published historical essays such as La colonización del Quindío y la fundación y desarrollo de Calarcá.

In recognition of his career, in 2022 he received the "Gran Cruz Extraordinaria" medal awarded by the Government of Quindío, and in 2022 he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award within the framework of the Departmental Stimulus Program.

Currently, Jaime Lopera Gutiérrez continues to be a central figure in Quindío culture, promoting regional history and literature as tools for identity and collective memory.
