José Ramón Valente
José Ramón Valente. Economist from the University of Chile and MBA from the University of Chicago, José Ramón Valente has dedicated much of his career to bringing economics closer to all Chileans. Through letters and opinion columns, activations on social networks, participation in radio and television programs, and book publishing, he has actively influenced the economic debate in Chile.
Pioneers of Capital is his most recent work, a book that explores the development of the Chilean capital market and the key figures who have made it possible. Previously, he wrote The Rebellion of Common Sense (2015), a book that lists the keys to the success or failure of various economic models, and The Story of a Dream (2011), where he conducts an exhaustive analysis of the first thirty years of the AFP system in Chile. He was Minister of Economy, Development, and Tourism of Chile, where he led significant initiatives aimed at boosting the country's investment and productivity. As a government advisor, he played a fundamental role in the 2002 capital market reform, highlighting his work in designing the multifund system of the AFPs. He currently serves as president of Econsult.
