Juanjo Guarnido
Juanjo Guarnido (Granada, 1967) is a Spanish illustrator and cartoonist, internationally recognized for his mastery in European comics. After studying Fine Arts and collaborating with Comics Forum, he worked as an animator at Disney France before co-creating, alongside Juan Díaz Canales, the series Blacksad (2000–2023), a benchmark work in the anthropomorphic noir genre. Additionally, he illustrated Brujeando (2008–2010) with Teresa Valero and Las Indias de la Perfidia (2019) with Alain Ayroles
His detailed and expressive style has been widely awarded: he has received the National Comic Award (2014), several Eisner Awards (2011, 2013, 2023, 2024) and recognitions at festivals such as Angoulême and Harvey. Guarnido has consolidated his place as one of the greats of the ninth art, combining visual narrative and pictorial technique with a distinctive identity.
