Lesley Sims
Lesley has been writing since she can remember. After winning English awards at school, she studied law at university because her mother insisted she had a fallback. She graduated as a lawyer, but realized she didn't want to spend her life in a wig. She also wrote short stories when she should have been revising for her finals, another clue she wasn't cut out for legal life. Instead, she joined a small publishing house and edited their legal profession directory. In 1993, Usborne Publishing announced the search for a fiction editor at their Oxford office and she seized the opportunity. She moved to the London office in 1995, writing mystery novels and humorous history books. Her "Visitor's Guide to Ancient Rome", a parody of the city's tourist guide, won the Senior Information Book Award from the Times Educational Supplement in 2000. She is currently the chief editor in charge of the Young Reading and First, Manuals and Treasures series, among others. When not writing or editing, Lesley loves watching plays and movies, learning tap dance, taking long walks along the Thames, and playing the tenor sax in a jazz band. Her favorite color is purple.
