Manuel Agustín Aguirre
Manuel Agustín Aguirre Ríos (Loja, 1903 – Quito, 1992) was a prominent Ecuadorian jurist, educator, and political leader. Founder of the Ecuadorian Socialist Party and later of the Revolutionary Socialist Party, he played key roles as vice president of the National Assembly in 1945 and as the first dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Central University of Ecuador. His commitment to social transformation and education established him as an influential figure in the country's political and academic thought.

His most significant work is History of Economic Thought, first published in 1958 and reissued several times. This trilogy spans from pre-capitalist societies to Marxism, offering a critical analysis of the development of economic ideas. The first volume, Pre-capitalist Societies, Capitalist Societies, has been widely used in university teaching in Ecuador and Latin America, establishing itself as an essential reference in the study of political economy.
