Ryu Murakami
Ryū Murakami (村上龍) is a Japanese writer and film director born in Sasebo (Nagasaki) on February 19, 1952. His real name is Murakami Ryunosuke (村上龍之介?). Due to the surname coincidence with Haruki Murakami, in the eighties it was common to talk about the "two Murakamis", although they are not related and do not share much in literary terms.
His novels are often characterized by the rawness in descriptions and the violence of the narrated situations. Having lived near a U.S. military base in his native Sasebo allowed him to deeply understand American culture and idiosyncrasies. His most famous works are Almost Transparent Blue, from which Murakami directed its film adaptation,5 Miso Soup and Piercing.
