Originally from Osaka Prefecture, Takashi Murakami made his debut with a one-shot in Shueisha's Young Jump in 1985 while still attending the University of Tokyo. He later published several short stories, all set in comedy, until his first success in 2000: Paji. This also marked a turning point in his career as he ventured into the drama of slice of life. The work published in Young Jump consisted of 9 volumes and received the Excellence Award from the Japan Media Arts Festival.
Although he continued to publish comedies, it is especially his realistic dramas that are most successful. Such is the case with The Blue Bird, The Dog in Love with the Stars, and Kota, come here!
