Vladimir Jankélévitch
Born in France, in 1903 and died in Paris, in 1985. Studied philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure. Was commissioned to teach courses at the French Institute of Prague. Upon returning to Paris, he earned a doctorate in Letters. He was a professor at the universities of Caen, Lyon, Toulouse, Lille, and at the Sorbonne. He was a member of the French Resistance during the German occupation. In addition to philosophy and literature, he had a great passion for music which is reflected in his nine books published on this subject, among which stands out Music and the Ineffable. Among his vast work on moral philosophy, composed of more than twenty books, notable are: Bad Conscience, Treatise on Virtues, Death, The Paradox of Morality, and especially his Course on Moral Philosophy.
