Before turning to writing, she worked as a nurse, an experience that has influenced the depth and realism of her characters. Her literary career took off with the publication of "Shoot My Heart" (2009), followed by "Seven Years of Darkness" (2011), which was recognized as one of the top ten crime novels of 2015 by the German newspaper Die Zeit.
