In Chloressigsure (auch: Monochloressigsure) ist ein Wasserstoffatom der Methylgruppe der Essigsure durch ein Chloratom ersetzt. Ihre Salze heien (Mono-)Chloracetate. Die Darstellung erfolgt durch Chlorierung von Essigsure bei 85 C und bis zu 6 bar unter Zugabe katalytischer Mengen von Acetanhydrid oder Acetylchlorid. Chloressigsure bildet farblose Kristalle mit stechendem Geruch, die zwischen 53 und 63 C schmelzen (je nach Modifikation) und sich leicht in Wasser, aber auch in Ethanol, Diethylether und anderen organischen Lsungsmitteln lsen. Die wssrige Lsung reagiert stark sauer, wesentlich strker sauer als Essigsure.
