Synopsis "Acté (in French)"

En 57 à Corinthe (Grèce), Acté (15 ans) accueille Lucius (20 ans) qui débarque de Rome pour les jeux olympiques, et l'héberge. Lucius remporte la lutte, la course de chars et le chant. Puis il emmène Acté sur son navire et lui offre l'esclave Sabina. Il rentre à Rome en triomphe et Acté découvre que c'est Néron. Sa mère, Agrippine, apprend à Acté qu'il a empoisonné son demi-frère Britannicus pour prendre sa place, qu'il vit de luxure, et lui demande de le guérir de ses vices. Mais elle demande à Agrippine de l'empêcher de le voir. Néron fait tuer Aggrippine (sa propre mère). L'apôtre Paul, proscrit, recueille Acté et l'emmène chez les chrétiens dans les catacombes mais est arrêté par Néron qui épouse Sabina. Acté rejoint Paul qui la baptise et est décapité. Acté est livrée aux bêtes des arènes, mais est sauvée par un ami de Paul. L'Espagne se révolte, et cela gagne Rome. Néron fuit et se suicide à 32 ans.

Alexandre Dumas is one of the most prolific and popular authors from France. He was born in 1802 in the city of Villers-Cotterets, and soon moved to Paris to work as a secretary for the Duke of Orléans. There, he completed his education on his own and began to take an interest in writing.
He started by writing plays, and then moved on to poems and long stories. However, his real success did not come until 1844, the year he released the work that would catapult him to fame: The Three Musketeers. The serial publication of this novel brought him a huge sum of money, but it also meant countless hours of work, many collaborators, and the production of up to eighty installments to meet the growing public demand.
After the publication of The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo, Dumas amassed a great fortune. However, his hedonistic nature led him to squander all he had earned and he soon found himself forced to exile in Belgium to escape his French creditors.
The Count of Monte Cristo, the pinnacle of the author's narrative, is considered one of the greatest adventure novels of all time.
