Adam Keel ist Autodidakt und wird der Kunstrichtung Outsider_Art zugerechnet. Er favorisierte in den 1950er und 1960er Jahren Pastell- und Temperatechniken, in den 1970ern die moderne, realistische Bleistiftzeichnung und entwickelte in den achtziger und neunziger Jahren einen avantgardistischen Zugang zum Scherenschnitt, der in der Fachwelt grosse Beachtung fand. Die grafische Entschiedenheit des Papierschnitts bertrgt Adam Keel seit den neunzigern auf Zeichnungen. Adam Keel hat neben der bildnerischen Kunst Objekte aus Holz und Metall gestaltet. Adam Keel ist ein Sohn des expressionistischen Malers Carl Eugen Keel und von Emma Keel-Schr. 1961 heiratete er die Textilknstlerin und -pdagogin Ria Keel-Traber. Er lebt in Rebstein im St. Galler Rheintal.
