Agns Varda (1928-2019) hat die knstlerischen Ausdrucksmglichkeiten des Kinos im Laufe ihrer Karriere mit einer experimentierfreudigen Handschrift nachhaltig weiterentwickelt, die sie selbst als "cincriture" bezeichnet.Vardas Schaffen, von "La Pointe Courte" (1954) ber "Le Bonheur" (1965), "L'une chante l'autre pas" (1977) und "Les glaneurs et la glaneuse" (2000) zu "Visages Villages" (2017), bewegt sich zwischen dokumentarischem Realismus und poetischer Fiktion. Als eine der ersten europischen Regisseur:innen bertrgt sie Stilmittel aus Kunst, Literatur und Musik der Moderne auf die Leinwand. Sptestens seit ihrem internationalen Durchbruch mit Clo de 5 7 (1961), in dem sich die Protagonistin vom Objekt mnnlicher Schaulust zu einer aktiv sehenden Flneuse emanzipiert, sind Vardas modernistische Affinitten mit einer feministischen Perspektive verknpft. Im Jahr 2000 wendet sie sich begeistert kleinen Digitalkameras zu und schlgt mit ber 70 Jahren eine dritte Karriere als Installationskunstlerin ein. Ihr in sechs Jahrzehnten entstandenes Werk umfasst Film, Fotografie und Installationskunst und ist in dieser Vielfalt singulr. Der Band versammelt Beitrge, die die modernistischen, feministischen und essayistischen Aspekte in Vardas Schaffen im Sinne eines Netzwerks herausstellen.
