English summary: Human life is made up of a sequence of decisions. Man is thus confronted with the inevitable question of just behaviour. Ethics searches a reasonable answer as well as an explanatory method. Criterion for just behaviour is Man being an end in itself. Acting is responsible if it is based upon a justified demand of the concerned for their happiness and the required goods and rights. Judging behaviour solely by its consequences doesn't take mankind's end in itself into account. German description: Das menschliche Leben ist eine Abfolge von Entscheidungen. Der Mensch steht daher unausweichlich vor der Frage nach dem richtigen Handeln. Hier sucht die Ethik nach einer begrundeten Antwort und zugleich nach einer ausgewiesenen Begrundungsmethode. Kriterium des richtigen Handelns ist die Selbstzwecklichkeit des Menschen. Verantwortbar ist ein Handeln, das den berechtigten Anspruch der Betroffenen auf ihr Gluck und die dazu erforderlichen Guter und Rechte respektiert. Eine ausschliesslich an den Folgen orientierte Bewertung der Handlung wird der Selbstzwecklichkeit des Menschen nicht gerecht. Die 5., uberarbeitete Auflage ist u. a. erganzt durch Ausfuhrungen zum Koharentismus und zum Kontraktualismus.
