Wie bei erwachsenen Patienten ist auch bei Jugendlichen die chronische Prostatitis bzw. das chronische Beckenschmerzsyndrom (CP/CPPS) verheerend und hat schwerwiegende Auswirkungen auf die Lebensqualität. Während der Pubertät wird die Fortpflanzungsfunktion der Prostata aktiv, und die Sekrete der Prostata machen den grö ten Teil des Spermas aus. In der Vorpubertät wächst die Prostata nur langsam, um dann während der Pubertät aufgrund des pubertären Anstiegs des Serumtestosterons rasch zu wachsen. Die Entzündung während dieser sich schnell verändernden Periode könnte schädliche Auswirkungen auf den normalen physiologischen Prozess der Prostata haben, und die Adoleszenz ist bekanntlich eine kritische Phase für die geistige, soziale und emotionale Entwicklung. Heranwachsende CPPS-Patienten könnten aufgrund ihrer unreifen Anpassungsfähigkeit und ihres verletzlichen Zustands mit mehr psychologischem Stress konfrontiert sein als CPPS-Patienten. Weitere Studien über das jugendliche CPPS, einschlie lich der psychodynamischen Bewertung, würden diese seltene, aber wichtige Störung klären.
