La oración de Agustín a partir de su vida consiste en abrir no sólo sus propios problemas delante de la divinidad, sino en pensar ante Dios con el vivo deseo de recibir su luz, a fin de que éste penetre en los problemas intelectuales que más le afectan: qué es el tiempo; qué es el mal; qué es la mente humana; qué es la memoria; qué es el amor y la muerte. Estos grandes temas típicamente agustinianos parecen adquirir líneas, colores y relieves insospechados a la luz de esta Verdad que San Agustín identifica resueltamente con Dios. Saint Augustine of Hippo (354–430 AD) was a philosopher, theologian, and father of the Latin Church, whose work had a profound influence on Christian and Western thought. Converted to Christianity after an intense spiritual search, he became the bishop of Hippo and wrote extensively on theology, ethics, and the human condition. His texts combine philosophical depth with an intense inner life, and are key in the development of medieval and modern Christian thought.

Among his most important works are Confessions (397–400), The City of God (413–426), On the Trinity (400–416), Soliloquies (386), and Christian Doctrine (397). His output, mostly in the philosophical-theological genre, addresses the relationship between faith and reason, the soul, time, and the good. His writings continue to be widely studied, although there are no contemporary awards associated with his work.
