Goethes spätes Weltbild, das wesentlich vom Phänomen des Dämonischen geprägt ist, wird in diesem Buch als Ausgangspunkt für bestimmte Ideenräume der modernen Theorie- und Diskursbildung gesehen. Es wird gezeigt, wie sich die Goethesche Vision des Dämonischen auf den heutigen Charisma-Begriff auswirkt und als dessen Grundlage gesehen werden kann. Zuerst werden die Begriffe Dämon und dämonisch analysiert, um dann in einem zweiten Schritt kenntlich zu machen, wie diese Begrifflichkeiten mit dem heutigen Charisma-Begriff in Verbindung stehen. Ziel des Buches ist es zu zeigen, dass der Charisma-Begriff Max Webers seinen geistesgeschichtlichen Ursprung nicht allein in der Antike und im frühen Christentum hat, sondern dass es Goethe war, der diesen Horizont über seine Vision des Dämonischen in die moderne Welt einführt.
