Der wohlhabende Belgrader Unternehmer Zivota Cvijovic wünscht sich für seinen Sohn Milorad sehnlichst den Doktortitel - der aber zeigt überhaupt keine Neigung für ein Studium. Daher lässt Cvijovic den hochbegabten, jedoch völlig mittellosen Jugendfreund seines Sohnes unter dessen Namen in Freiburg (Schweiz) Philosophie studieren und gelangt auf diese Weise tatsächlich in den Besitz einer auf Milorad lautenden Doktorurkunde. Alles wäre nun gut - wenn nicht plötzlich der Freiburger Professor des "vielversprechenden jungen Doktors der Philosophie" auf der Durchreise nach Belgrad käme und noch weitere Personen, zu denen der "begabte junge Wissenschaftler" in der Schweiz enge Bande geknüpft hat, und wenn nicht des Vaters Ehrgeiz auch weiterhin so schwer in Schach zu halten wäre...
