Cuentan que en los primeros años de infancia de Bram Stoker una desconocida enfermedad lo mantuvo en cama hasta la edad de siete años; durante este enclaustramiento su madre le relataba cuentos de fantasmas e historias de misterio. Tales cuentos propios del folclore irlandés serían determinantes para moldear más tarde su estilo de escritor. Drácula es la obra más famosa del género gótico. La leyenda del vampiro de Transilvania ya existía en varias subculturas y ha inspirado muchas películas, sin embargo nunca fue tan bien relatada como en el caso de Drácula de Stoker. La historia del famoso conde ha recibido innumerables premios y elogios a nivel mundial, siendo incluso traducida a varios idiomas.
