The Falcon GT interceptor is an Australian muscle car whose origins can be traced back to a police Ford Falcon sedan V8 XR hi-performance Pursuit Interceptor programme for Victoria police. These were the beginnings of the Falcon GT legends, the 1967 XR then the '68 XT, '69 XW, '71 XY ,'72+ XA,'73+XB Bathurst winners. The birth was something special for Ford, an Australian Grand Tourer destined to be a classic from inception admired by past and future generations, an icon by the Ford Motor Company of Australia. The former police interceptors are an important part of Australian motor history and are rare in numbers. They existed before the making of the films Mad Max and Mad Max 2 in which "Max" drove a Main Force Patrol Pursuit Special Interceptor.
