James (Jim) Robert Davis is a well-known comic creator and American artist, born on July 28, 1945, in Marion, Indiana. He is globally famous for being the creator of the comic strip Garfield, which debuted on June 19, 1978. The strip, focused on the antics of the lazy and sarcastic cat Garfield, his owner Jon Arbuckle, and the dog Odie, quickly became a worldwide phenomenon.

Davis began his career as an illustrator in college, where he studied at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. After several attempts in the comic world, he achieved success with Garfield, which is currently distributed in thousands of international newspapers and has led to several books, movies, and a successful television series.

Davis's work has been a benchmark in popular culture and, throughout his career, has been recognized with multiple awards and honors. Although his most famous work is Garfield, he has also worked on other projects, such as the strip U.S. Acres. In addition to his success as a creator, Davis is also an advocate for animal rights, which is reflected in the character of his characters.
